Snooker: UK public-service broad-caster the BBC renewed its deal with the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association for a further five years, from 2007 to 2011, paying about £20m (€29m).  The deal is thought to be a significant cut on the existing deal, worth about £28m over a five-and-a-half year period.

Basketball: Polish pay-broadcaster Canal Plus acquired the live rights for the Euroleague in a three-year deal, from 2005-06 to 2007-08, with the Bonivest agency, which brokered the deal on behalf of Euroleague Basketball.

Formula 1: Spanish sports agency Mediapro acquired the rights for Formula 1 in a five-year deal, 2009 to 2013, in a deal thought to be worth about €35m (£24m) a year.

Commonwealth Games:  UK public-service broadcaster the BBC acquired the rights to the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in a deal with the Fastrack agency, which is selling the rights on behalf of the organisers.

Asian Games:  Indian public-service broadcaster Doordarshan acquired the exclusive rights in India for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, paying $400,000 (£215,000/€313,000), an increase of $50,000 on what it paid for the previous Games.

Tennis: Pan-European cable and satellite broadcaster Eurosport extended its deal for coverage of the Australian Open for a further four years, from 2008 to 2011. Eurosport will also be the distribution agent for the media rights across Europe. The rights were previously held by the European Broadcasting Union, the umbrella group representing the region’s public-service broadcasters.
