Cricket: Australian sports broad-caster Fox Sports acquired the rights for Australia’s next two tours to India, including the four Test series in October and the seven one-day internationals in 2009, in a deal with the Nimbus Sport agency. Fox will pay $10m (£5m/€6.4m), more than double the amount it traditionally pays for overseas tours. Fox outbid rival offers from terrestrial broadcasters Channel Nine, bidding for overseas cricket for the first time in several years, and SBS. The high profile of the recent Australia-India series, the growing ability of terrestrial broadcasters to show coverage on digital channels and the growth of smaller pay-broadcasters such as ESPN and Setanta all played a role in increased competition for the rights.
